Describing the Job Market In Barbados

The most evident and readily accessible sort of job is in the hotel business.

There are hundreds of hotels dotting the coasts, and each one gives an exceptional level of service to thousands of visitors each year.

Tourism is the largest sector on the island and the economic backbone; as a result, they take any customer service role extremely seriously.

Numerous resorts use foreign staff and would very certainly look kindly on a young British candidate brimming with passion.

Among the occupations available are those of wait staff, hostesses, receptionists, golf caddies, nannies, and bartenders.

Of course, it would be simpler for them to recruit local Bajans (Barbados natives) than it would be to hire from outside to avoid the hassle of arranging work permits – which is why your application must shine!

To work on the island, the majority of non-nationals need a work visa. Exceptions apply to citizens of the Caribbean (CARICOM).

Barbados Immigration Department issues work permits in the following formats:

  1. Temporary permits are valid for up to 11 months.
  2. Permits for extended stays are valid for up to three years.

For long-term visas, the employer must demonstrate to the Immigration Department that the work cannot be performed by a resident or a Barbadian national and that the employment has been advertised locally.

The Immigration Department’s website contains pertinent permission paperwork and forms.

Male unemployment decreased to 12.5 percent and female unemployment fell to 12.3 percent in the third quarter, the period under consideration.

The continuous reduction in the unemployment rate reflects a move away from a peak of 17.2 percent in late March and a low of 15.9 percent in late June last year.

According to the latest Continuous Household Labour Force Survey conducted by the Barbados Statistical Service (BSS), the overall number of individuals classified as jobless was 16,800 in September 2021, down almost 5,000 from the previous quarter.
